Installing a Fence in Upper Merion Township (19087)

Paramount Fencing Inc. is a 5 Star Rated Fencing Installation contractor and supplier serving Upper Merion Township and the surrounding areas.

When installing a fence in Upper Merion there are a few rules and regulations to take into consideration before you get too far into your planning. You do not need to get a permit in Upper Merion township as long as the fence you are installing is no more than 4’ tall and does not enclose a swimming pool. If you need a taller fence, than you are going to need to get special permission from the zoning board.  The building permit application can be found here: Upper Merion Permit and you must attach this document to the permit : Fence Addendum.

If you are planning a rear yard fence installation in Upper Merion the world is your oyster if your fence is less than 6′ in height; however, things get a bit more complicated when installing a fence in the front yard. Front yard fences must be open and airy so if you are looking for a 6′ tall vinyl privacy fence in your front yard, you are more than likely out of luck or you are going to have to give up some of your property. Upper Merion Township does not want solid fences or anything that blocks the natural look of the neighborhood.  The King of Prussia area does allow solid fences in the front yard as long as they are no higher than 4′ tall. The most common fences over 4′ tall accepted by the township, for front yard installation, would be ornamental  fencing or ornamental steel (The old wrought iron look). Another classic look would be split rail fencing, cedar round rail fencing or flat board fencing. Each of these fence styles in open and airy and relatively see through.

In many cases corner lots have large side yards. Unfortunately, when it comes to fence rules and regulations in Upper Merion township, that large side yard is considered another front yard and must follow the same open style concept.
