Generally, a fence may not exceed 6′ in height in Haverford Township.  Solid fences, such as stick built wood fencing or vinyl privacy fences,  are permitted to be placed along the rear yard property lines on all properties, and along the side yard property lines of a property with a minimum width as measured at the building line of 50 feet. For properties whose width is less than 50 feet at the building line, fences placed along the side property lines may not exceed six feet in height; unless there is a style chosen that allows the space between 5′ and 6′ to be at least 50% open, such as a lattice topped fence or one with an open-spindle topper.

In Lower Merion Township, simplified, you cannot have a fence that exceeds 6′ in height.  If you are to build a fence more than 6′ in height, it must be 75% open.
